Modular chemistry

The construction of extended solids from molecular building blocks, is currently extensively used in the synthesis of materials designed to possess specified properties. The use of molecular modules guaranteeing the possession of the desired properties by the extended solid allows (and requires) synthesis to be carried out at or near room temperature so as to ensure the structural integrity of the molecular modules.
